In the early 1970s, Pierre Bourdieu expanded the status attainment concept to include cultural capital. Bourdieu (2000) believed individuals were stratified based on different levels of cultural understanding. According to Bowles and Gintis (1976), cultural understanding was often exhibited through personality traits and self-presentation.
