After written consent had been obtained, an appointment for a home visit was made. Trained interviewers visited the home and distributed questionnaire packets to each family member. Parents and the two children completed a set of questionnaires designed to tap a variety of psychological, social and emotional characteristics including close relationships, problem behaviour, and personality. Families who had participated all three times were eligible for five lottery prizes consisting of 2000 guilders each (approximately $800).
