The writer demanding situations and questions the arguments which have been made in help of persevered large-scale immigration to the us. He means that "a huge majority of american citizens are afflicted by means of present immigration and want to see it decreased, yet they're puzzled and intimidated via the endless circulation of cliches, myths, catch-phrases and fallacies, disseminated by way of the scoop media and different strong associations, which are used to advertise it. within the following pages i'll seriously learn a few those slogans from various angles... i'm going to search to reveal the fake premises, the misleading assertions, the illogical leaps of notion, and the brain-numbing sentiments wherein the immigrationists have saved the USA in thrall." In seinen neueren Veröffentlichungen tritt Jürgen Habermas immer wieder als prominenter Kritiker von Naturalismus und Szientismus auf. Language? Income? Nationality? Race? Victim status? First come first served? The “nation of immigrants” slogan cannot help us choose among these criteria because it doesn’t state any good that 46 | huddled clichÉs is to be achieved by immigration. It simply produces a blind emotional bias in favor of more immigration rather than less, making rational discussion of the issue impossible. To see the uselessness of the “nation of immigrants” formula as a source of political guidance, imagine what the British would have said if they had adopted it in 1940 when they were facing an imminent invasion by Hitler’s Germany.

If good moral qualities can be preserved among us only by bringing in strangers from foreign cultures, then America is already finished. We have given up on ourselves, and are simply letting other people take our place. At least they’ll keep the economy going. The second problem is less apparent. Since we Americans are doing nothing to reverse our own decadence, the newer Americans, particularly the fabled Asians, are becoming part of that decadence. Asians carry no magical immunity against the moral and spiritual rot that has affected Westerners.
