An act of moral courage is not life threatening, but it may have long-term and potentially very negative consequences, including loss of job, reputation, and future opportunities. Moral courage involves taking risks and accepting the fear that goes with potentially losing something very important to present or future security. Yet what will be gained from the act of moral courage will generally not be for self but for the benefit of another individual, the team, the organization, the community, or society in general.
